Wave
“Wave” was composed in 1967 by Antônio Carlos Jobim during the height of the bossa nova movement. First recorded as an instrumental for his album Wave, arranged by Claus Ogerman, the piece exemplified Jobim’s refined harmonic language and плавering rhythmic ease. Its graceful melody soon attracted English lyrics by Norman Gimbel, expanding its international reach.
Artists including Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald helped popularize “Wave” beyond Brazil. Though less overtly rhythmic than earlier bossa nova hits, its subtle chord shifts and lyrical flow made it a favorite among jazz musicians, who admire its balance of simplicity and harmonic sophistication.
