Trumpet Voluntary
Trumpet Voluntary, formally titled The Prince of Denmark’s March, is a Baroque‑era musical work by the English composer and organist Jeremiah Clarke, written around 1700. It was originally a keyboard piece for organ or harpsichord using the trumpet stop, which makes the melody sound like a fanfare. For many years in the 19th and early 20th centuries it was wrongly attributed to Henry Purcell before scholars corrected the record.
The piece became extremely popular as ceremonial and wedding music, especially after arrangements for trumpet and organ or orchestra spread in the 20th century. Its bold, joyful melody and regal character keep it in frequent use at celebrations and formal events.
