Take Me Out to the Ball Game
“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” was written in 1908 by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer, two Tin Pan Alley veterans. Despite creating a definitive American anthem, neither man had actually attended a baseball game before writing it.
The song became a sensation in vaudeville, eventually finding its home during the seventh-inning stretch. Notable versions include Harry Caray’s gravelly, beloved stadium leads. Originally, the lyrics focused on a fictional fan named Katie Casey, who prioritized the ballpark over the theater.
