Sheep May Safely Graze

Sheep May Safely Graze was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach between 1713 and 1716 as part of the secular cantata Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd (BWV 208), written for a ducal birthday celebration during the Baroque era.

Originally scored for soprano, recorder, and continuo, the aria later gained independent life through keyboard and instrumental arrangements. Its serene pastoral character made it popular in concerts and ceremonies, with notable interpretations by Wanda Landowska and many modern classical ensembles.
