Sheep May Safely Graze was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1713–1716 as an aria from the secular cantata Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd (BWV 208), written to honor a ducal birthday during the Baroque period.

Originally set for soprano, recorder, and continuo, the aria later circulated widely in keyboard and instrumental arrangements. Its calm pastoral character helped it become a concert staple, often performed independently from the cantata and embraced far beyond its original courtly context.
