House of the Rising Sun

“House of the Rising Sun” is a traditional folk song made famous by a version in 1964 by the British rock group, The Animals.

Like many folk songs, it is hard to pinpoint the origin of the music and lyrics. The first printed version of the lyrics came out in 1925. And it’s been said that miners were singing the tune as far back as 1905.

Fingerstyle Guitar Tab

This is a fingerstyle solo guitar arrangement. Sometimes called a chord melody but the intention of this arrangement is to be played “solo” without accompaniment.

I kept the arrangement fairly simple yet tried to keep it interesting enough to be considered a real arrangement that you can play in front of people or at a gig. It’s easy enough for the beginner and early intermediate guitarist with maybe a couple of challenging parts. I’ve also included the lyrics of the first verse to show where the melody is.
