Hava Nagila
“Hava Nagila” is a song traditionally sung at Jewish celebrations. Before it had words, it started as a Hasidic melody in Eastern Europe. The melody then found its way to Jerusalem. In 1915, a Jewish musicologist, Avraham Zvi Idelsohn, transcribed the melody. From there, he and his students added words (from Psalms) and an upbeat rhythm to the melody.
