Greensleeves

“Greensleeves” is a traditional English ballad that dates back to the sixteenth century, but one knows for sure who wrote the lyrics or the melody. The legend has it, that the words to “Greensleeves” were written for Anne Boleyn by King Henry VIII during their courtship, which apparently wasn’t going well for him. There is also the belief that the song was composed after Henry’s death because this Italian style of music had not reached England yet.
