Freight Train
Freight Train” was composed by Elizabeth Cotten around 1904 when she was just a teenager. A cornerstone of American folk music, the song gained global fame during the 1950s UK skiffle craze via Chas McDevitt and Nancy Whiskey.
The track is celebrated for its distinctive “Cotten picking” style, born from the artist playing a right-handed guitar upside down. Notable covers by Joan Baez and Peter, Paul and Mary solidified its status as a quintessential folk standard.
