Clair de Lune
Composed by Claude Debussy, Clair de lune is the third movement of Suite bergamasque. First drafted around 1890 and revised before its 1905 publication, it reflects Debussy’s transition toward musical Impressionism, favoring atmosphere, fluid harmony, and suggestion over formal rigidity.
Inspired by a poem by Paul Verlaine, the movement gradually gained popularity despite an initially quiet reception. It became a recital favorite through pianists such as Walter Gieseking and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, later entering film and popular culture as an emblem of introspection and moonlit calm.
