Be My Baby
“Be My Baby” was written by Phil Spector, Jeff Barry, and Ellie Greenwich, and recorded by The Ronettes in 1963. Produced by Spector, it became a defining example of his “Wall of Sound,” blending dense orchestration with teenage longing. Lead singer Ronnie Spector’s vocal gave the record its emotional core.
The instantly recognizable drum intro, played by Hal Blaine, helped make it a No. 2 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Revered by later artists, notably Brian Wilson, the song became a pop touchstone, its echo-drenched sweep still sounding both grand and intimate decades later.
