Arioso
“Arioso” is the sinfonia from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata #156. A sinfonia is an orchestral piece used as an introduction or an interlude to cantata or opera. In this case, it is the introduction (the 1st movement) of the cantata, Ich steh mit einem Fuß im Grabe (I am standing with one foot in the grave), BWV 156. The cantata, including Arioso, was first performed on 23 January 1729.
