Yankee Doodle
Yankee Doodle” emerged in the mid-18th century as a British satirical tune, often linked to Richard Shuckburgh during the French and Indian War. Its jaunty melody was originally meant to ridicule colonial soldiers.
American troops soon embraced the song, flipping its intent into a badge of defiance during the Revolutionary War. Its simple structure and adaptable form helped it survive through oral tradition, making it an enduring symbol of American musical identity.
