Bourrée
The Bourrée from Suite in E Minor for Lute (BWV 996) was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach during his Weimar period, likely between 1708 and 1717. Originally written for the lautenwerck, this Baroque dance movement features a driving, contrapuntal rhythm that highlights Bach’s mastery of the form.
While composed for a keyboard-lute hybrid, it found modern immortality through classical guitar. Greats like Andrés Segovia and Julian Bream transformed this work into a foundational solo piece, blending rhythmic precision with elegant charm.
