White Christmas
“White Christmas” was written in 1940 by Irving Berlin and first performed publicly by Bing Crosby on radio in 1941. Introduced in the film Holiday Inn, Crosby’s 1942 recording became an enduring classic during World War II, its nostalgic longing striking a deep chord with soldiers and families separated by conflict.
Remarkably, the original master wore out from heavy pressing and had to be re-recorded in 1947, closely matching the earlier arrangement. “White Christmas” went on to become one of the best-selling singles of all time, its gentle melody and wistful lyric defining the sound of the modern holiday season.
