Three Blind Mice
“Three Blind Mice” is a traditional English folk song, first published in 1609 in Deuteromelia by composer-editor Thomas Ravenscroft. Often taught to children, it circulated orally for decades, reflecting early modern England’s taste for simple, memorable melodies.
The piece later became a staple round, sung in canon, and recorded by countless children’s choirs and folk performers. A persistent theory links its imagery to Mary I’s persecutions, though historians debate this, giving the rhyme an unusually dark reputation.
