London Bridge Is Falling Down

“London Bridge Is Falling Down” is a traditional English folk song of anonymous origin, documented as early as the 17th century and printed in 1744 in Tommy Thumb’s Pretty Song Book. Its simple melody reflects an era when songs were shared orally across generations and social classes.

Although it predates the guitar’s rise in popular music, the tune later found a natural home on the instrument as guitars became common in folk and parlor settings during the 19th century. The song has been recorded by performers including Burl Ives and widely used in educational contexts.
