Bridal Chorus
Bridal Chorus, by Richard Wagner, comes from his opera Lohengrin, first performed in 1850. Often known as “Here Comes the Bride” or the Wedding March, it accompanies Elsa’s bridal procession, embodying Romantic-era grandeur and ritual through choral writing rather than solo melody.
Its widespread wedding use developed outside the opera house through organ arrangements and tradition. It is sometimes confused with Mendelssohn’s Wedding March from A Midsummer Night’s Dream (written later, in 1842), though the two serve different dramatic moments and musical purposes.
