Bridal Chorus
Bridal Chorus is by Richard Wagner, from his opera Lohengrin, premiered in 1850 in Weimar. Sung by chorus, it accompanies Elsa’s wedding procession, reflecting mid-19th-century Romantic opera and Wagner’s ideals of myth, ceremony, and dramatic unity.
Though now a wedding staple, the piece originally carried ironic tension within the plot. Its popularity grew through arrangements and organ transcriptions, despite Wagner’s later association with controversy, and it remains a ceremonial favorite rather than a concert showpiece.
