“On Green Dolphin Street” was composed by Bronisław Kaper with lyrics by Ned Washington for the 1947 MGM film Green Dolphin Street. Although the movie has largely faded from popular memory, the song survived, gradually becoming a modern jazz standard in the 1950s.

Its enduring reputation was cemented by Miles Davis’s influential 1958 recording, which highlighted the tune’s lyrical melody and sophisticated harmonic design. Today, it remains a staple of jazz performances and jam sessions worldwide.
